A novel open-chain nononic acid linked by an ether bond to glucose as a polysaccharide constituent

A novel sugar constituent was isolated from the heteropolysaccharide excreted by Streptococcus thermophilus 8 S when grown in skimmed milk. The structure and absolute configuration were determined by means of chemical analysis, mass spectrometry, NMR spectroscopy, along with molecular dynamics simulations, and was shown to be 6-O-(3',9'-dideoxy-D-threo-D-altro-nononic acid-2'-yl)-D-glucopyranose.     

Amino-acid sequence study in peptides by mass spectometry—III Investigation of ethyoxycarbonyl-peptide methyl esters

The utility of ethoxycarbonyl-peptide methyl esters for mass spectrometric analysis is described. The ethoxycarbonyl group has important advantages over other protecting groups which are in use. The derivatives have high intensity; this greatly facilitates the interpretation of the fragmentation pattern. The spentra of the methyl esters of the ethoxycarbonyl derivatives of pro-val, trp-gly, gly-ser, (cys)₂, glutation (GSH), glu-his-phe, val-tyr-pro and val-lys-val-tyr-pro are given.     

Amino-acid sequence study in peptides by mass spectometry-II. Investigation of pentadeuterobenzoyl-peptide methyl esters

The utility of benzoyl and pentadeuterobenzoyl derivatives of peptide methyl esters for mass spectrometric analysis was investigated. The mass spectra of the glu-his and the val-tyr-pro derivatives are discussed. Treatment of the peptide methyl esters with the mixed benzoic-ethyl-carbonic anhydride did in some cases lead to benzoyl derivatives as well as to ethoxycarbonyl derivatives.     

Search for a fourth-generation quark more massive than the Z0 boson in p&pmacr; collisions at radicals = 1.8 TeV

We present the results of a search for pair production of a fourth-generation charge -1 / 3 quark (b(')) in sqrt[s] = 1.8 TeV p&pmacr; collisions using 88 pb(-1) of data obtained with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We assume that both quarks decay via the flavor-changing neutral current process b(')-->bZ(0) and that the b(') mass is greater than m(Z)+m(b). We studied the decay mode b(')b(');-->Z(0)Z(0)b&bmacr; where one Z0 decays into e(+)e(-) or &mgr;(+)&mgr;(-) and the other decays hadronically, giving a signature of two leptons plus jets. An upper limit on the sigma(p&pmacr;-->b(')b(');)x[B(b(')-->bZ(0))](2) is established as a function of the b(') mass. We exclude at 95% confidence level a b(') quark with mass between 100 and 199 GeV/c(2) for B(b(')-->bZ(0)) = 100%.     

The use of diazabicyclo

[reaction: see text] In a study directed toward the use of the chloroacetyl protecting group in carbohydrate synthesis, the sterically hindered tertiary amine diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) was found to give complete and selective cleavage of the chloroacetyl group in the presence of other ester functions such as benzoyl and acetyl groups at primary and/or secondary positions.
